Lacrosse Downed at NDMU

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team was downed by Notre Dame of Maryland University, 16-8, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Field.

The first quarter was tight, with the Gators holding a slim 4-3 advantage after 15 minutes. NDMU netted three straight goals with two coming from sophomore Jade Stewart (Hagerstown, Md.) and the other from sophomore Sarah Generoso (Catonsville, Md.). The Falcons answered with back-to-back tallies from sophomore Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) and first-year Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). The teams would each find the back of the net once over the remainder of the opening frame. Stewart scored once again for the Gators while Graham put one home for Cedar Crest with 36 seconds left.

NDMU outscored the Falcons, 4-1 in the second stanza to extend its margin. The squads traded the first two markers. The Gators' goal came from Generoso with 12:08 on the clock while Graham capped off a hat trick for Cedar Crest at the 7:45 mark to trim the deficit to one, 5-4. Notre Dame of Maryland finished the quarter with a 3-0 run on tallies from Stewart, junior Averee Radonovich (Havre de Grace, Md.), and Generoso to give the home team an 8-4 lead at the half.

The third quarter featured eight goals with the Gators having a 5-3 scoring advantage. The Falcons got two straight markers to begin the offense on tallies from sophomore Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon), followed by the first career goal for first-year Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant). The next pair of goals were separated by 36 seconds. Stewart deposited one with 8:01 remaining while Graham registered her 37th goal of the season with 7:25 left in the quarter to make the score 9-7. Notre Dame of Maryland University rounded out the frame with a 4-0 run to push the lead to 13-7 with 15 minutes to go.

The Gators continued its run to start the final quarter with a 3-0 spurt to make the score 16-7. Jackson scored the last goal of the game of the contest for the Falcons with 2:27 to go for the 16-8 final.

First-year Alissandra Mason (Baltimore, Md.) recorded the win in goal for NDMU, making six saves. Junior Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) converted 11 stops in the loss.

Stewart paced the Gators with nine points on seven goals and two assists. Generoso added six points on four goals and two helpers. Junior Emma Alascia (Westminster, Md.) pitched in four points with a hat trick and one assist while Radonovich registered a pair of goals.

Graham led Cedar Crest with five points on four goals and one assist. Jackson recorded a pair of goals. Demarest and Terranova had a goal each while junior Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) tallied an assist.

The Falcons picked up 26 ground balls in the game. First-year Brooke Holley (Elkton, Md./Elkton) registered a team-high five. Woomer followed with four. Hinkle, Demarest, and Graham added three each. Jackson, Terranova, and sophomore Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) pitched in two apiece while senior Abbey Mower (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and first-year Nicole Guzman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) picked up one each.

Cedar Crest recorded nine caused turnovers. Holley paced the squad with four. Graham, Hinkle, Woomer, Terranova, and Bilger closed the category with one apiece.

The Falcons closed the box score with eight draw controls. Graham had a team-high four, Demarest had three, while Hinkle added one.

Cedar Crest (3-7 overall, 0-3 CSAC) will play host to Bryn Athyn College for its next game on Wednesday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. Notre Dame of Maryland University (3-9 overall, 2-2 CSAC) will take on Wilson College on the road for its regular season finale on Saturday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m.
