Wrestling Cruises Past Muhlenberg in Battle For Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. –
The Cedar Crest College wrestling team topped Muhlenberg College, 33-8, on Tuesday evening inside Lees Gymnasium.

The match began with a pair of forfeit wins for Cedar Crest at 103 and 110 by senior Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and sophomore Leilani Martinez (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township Senior), respectively to give the Falcons a 10-0 lead.

There was a double forfeit at 117 to keep the match 10-0.

First-year Mel Val (Tracy City, Tenn./St. Andrew's Sewanee) captured a win by way of tech fall over first-year Alessandra Rodriguez (Pennsauken, N.J.) to stretch the margin to 14-0.

Sophomore Alaina Stanford (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) recorded a victory by forfeit at 131 to increase the score to 19-0.

The Falcons won its sixth consecutive match of the night after graduate student Rachel DeGiulio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) defeated first-year Ellie Ward (Swedesboro, N.J.) by tech fall at 138 to push the score to 23-0. 

The Mules won back-to-back bouts at 145 and 160 to get on the board.

Senior Penelope Schneider (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) got by first-year Symarah Drey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) by decision, 5-0, at 145 and then first-year Kelsey Gelb (Schnecksville, Pa.) took down junior Draydon Charman (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) by way of fall at 160 to cut into the deficit and make the score 23-8.

At 180, sophomore Sarah Seltzer (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) beat first-year Karla Lazaro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) by fall (2:03) and then first-year Lexy Jones (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area Senior) captured a win by fall (4:34) over first-year Margaret Williams (Coltons Point, Md.) at 207 to push the score to 33-8, the eventual final.

In an extra match at 145, senior Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T) took down first-year Ella Pomeranz (Denver, Colo.) by fall (4:34).

Cedar Crest (4-1 overall) will return to the mat at the New Standard Corporation Invitational hosted by York College (Pa.) on Saturday, December 7 at 11:00 a.m.
