ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team rolled past Purchase College, 14-3, in a non-league contest on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex.
The Falcons started the game with 10 straight goals and led 10-0 at the half. Senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) started the scoring with an unassisted marker 50 seconds into the game. Junior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) then set up first-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) for a marker with 12:17 on the clock. Graham then netted back-to-back unassisted tallies and then Cedar Crest finished the frame when Schrader found junior
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) to put the home team up 5-0 at the end of the opening stanza.
Sophomore
Nicole Guzman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) initiated the scoring in the second quarter on an unassisted marker for the Falcons. Schrader followed with another goal, which was set up by Hinkle with 11:44 to play in the half. Sophomore
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township), Schrader, and Graham each found the back of the net over the remainder of the quarter to extend the Cedar Crest lead to 10-0 at the intermission.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard just over a minute into the third frame on a goal by senior Alyssa Kozak (East Meadow, N.Y.). The Falcons replied with two straight goals, one from Graham and the other from Sipel to push the margin back to 11, 12-1. The teams then traded goals over the rest of the period as sophomore Julieth Velasquez (White Plains, N.Y.) score for Purchase, while Graham deposited one for Cedar Crest with 4:30 on the clock to make the score 13-2 with 15 minutes remaining.
The squads traded markers in the final frame. Velasquez registered another goal, this time coming off a helper from Kozak, while Graham recorded her sixth goal of the afternoon, which came off an assist from Demarest with four minutes to play in regulation to make it the 14-3 final.
Senior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) recorded six saves, including her 100
th career stop, in the win for Cedar Crest. Junior Amani Jamal (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tallied 16 saves in the setback for Purchase.
Graham led the way for the Falcons, recording eight points on six goals and two assists. She also registered her 100
th career goal in the win. The junior also recorded six ground balls, four draw controls, and one caused turnover. Schrader finished with a hat trick plus an assist for four total points. The first-year also concluded with one ground ball, two caused turnovers, and one draw control. Hinkle registered two points on a goal and one assist to go along with six ground balls and two draw controls. Sipel finished with a pair of goals and chipped in three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Guzman rounded out the scoring column with a goal and also tallied one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Sophomore
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) had a pair of ground balls and one caused turnover. Junior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) added two ground balls and one caused turnover. First-year
Jessica Shults (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) had a ground ball. Junior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) turned in three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior
Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) rounded out the box score with a ground ball.
Kozak and Velasquez concluded the game with two points each for the Panthers.
Cedar Crest (3-0 overall) will stay at home and will play host to Neumann University on Wednesday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m. Purchase (0-4 overall) will next host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m.
