ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team fell to Neumann University in a 16-3 final in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at the FalconPlex.
The Knights netted the first two goals of the game, the first coming from sophomore Ainsley George (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and the second from sophomore Gia Caso (Drexel Hill, Pa.). The Falcons got its initial goal from sophomore
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) with 9:26 to play in the first quarter. The helper on the goal went to first-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) as Cedar Crest cut the deficit to one, 2-1. Neumann registered four-straight goals to build a 6-1 advantage. Demarest deposited her second tally with 1:33 remaining in the frame to make the score 6-2. Graduate student Rex Thenor (Riverside, N.J.) and senior Lindsey Fagan (Norwood, Pa.) were credited with the last pair of goals in the quarter to put the Knights up 8-2 at the end of the quarter.
Neumann outscored the Falcons 8-0 over the next two stanzas to extend its lead to 16-2 with one quarter to play.
Junior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) deposited the lone goal in the fourth frame to make it the 16-3 final. Demarest registered the assist on the marker.
Graduate student Catriona Corrigan (Aldan, Pa.) was credited with the win in goal for the Knights, making one save. First-year
Irelyn Yoder (Wilmington, Del./Concord) made 16 saves in the loss for Cedar Crest.
Fagan guided Neumann with seven points on five goals and two assists. She also had two draw controls.
Demarest recorded a team-high three points on two goals and one assist for Cedar Crest. The sophomore also had three ground balls and one caused turnover. In addition to her one goal, Graham added one ground ball and two draw controls. Schrader had one assist. Senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) tallied one draw control and a pair of draw controls. Junior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) picked up one ground ball. Yoder also had one ground ball. Junior
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) recorded five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) registered two ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior
Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) closed the box score with a caused turnover.
Cedar Crest (3-1 overall) will look to rebound on as it hosts Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday, March 26 at 5:00 p.m. Neumann (5-3 overall) welcomes in DeSales University in its next game on Saturday, March 23 at noon.
