ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team held off Mount Aloysius College, 7-4, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at the FalconPlex.
The Falcons netted the lone goal of the opening quarter, which came from the stick of junior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) just 55 seconds into the contest.
Graham went onto tally two more goals at the start of the second stanza, which was followed by the first marker of the game from sophomore
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) with 6:14 remaining. First-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) picked up the assist on the Terranova goal. Sophomore
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) made it 5-0 with an unassisted tally with 3:09 to play in the first half. The Mounties got on the board when senior Katie Figinski (Abingdon, Md.) found the back of the net with 1:54 on the clock to cut the Falcons' margin to four, 5-1, at the break.
Senior Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa.) registered back-to-back goals in the third quarter for Mount Aloysius, the second coming with 4:43 left to trim the Cedar Crest lead to two, 5-3.
The Falcons went onto outscore the Mounties, 2-1, in the final frame. Demarest recorded her second goal of the game at the 12:58 mark. First-year Brenna Dobson (Lewistown, Pa.) answered back with a tally for the Mounties. Terranova added an insurance goal for Cedar Crest with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Junior
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) picked up the helper on the final goal in the 7-4 final.
Senior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) converted 10 saves in goal in the win for the Falcons. Sophomore Sage Hoover (Dalmatia, Pa.) was credited with six stops in the setback.
Mount Aloysius held a slim 25-22 edge in shots.
Graham paced Cedar Crest with three goals for a hat trick. The junior also turned in one ground ball, one caused turnover, and one draw control. Demarest followed with two goals, two ground balls, and seven draw controls. Terranova closed the scoring with a pair of goals. She also had two ground balls. Schrader recorded one assist and one ground ball. Rifino had one assist. Senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) collected two ground balls and a draw control. Junior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) turned in one ground ball. Junior
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) registered two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) scooped up two ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior
Krystal Sears (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) closed the box score with a ground ball.
Cedar Crest (4-1 overall) will start United East Conference play with its next contest on Saturday, March 30 in a home game against St. Mary's College of Maryland at 2:00 p.m. Mount Aloysius (2-3 overall) begins conference play at Wells College on Saturday at noon.
