BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team was downed at Bryn Athyn College in a 16-3 final at General Ronald K. Nelson Field in a United East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions netted six unanswered goals in the first quarter and added one at the 12:42 mark of the second from the stick of junior Shea Gormley (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) to give Bryn Athyn the 7-0 advantage. Sophomore
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) put the Falcons on the board with a goal just 31 seconds later. The home team then went onto register five straight markers to finish the half and enter the break with a 12-1 lead.
The Lions tallied the first two goals of the third quarter before junior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) found the back of the net with 3:10 on the clock to make the score 14-2.
Bryn Athyn then outscored Cedar Crest, 2-1, over the remainder of the game. Junior
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) collected the last goal for the Falcons with 1:37 remaining in regulation to make it the 16-3 final.
Sophomore Chloe Munyon (Bensalem, Pa.) was credited with the win in the cage for the Lions, allowing one goal in just over 26 minutes of action. Senior Emily Bell (Rockledge, Pa.) made one save in the final 35:34.
Senior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) converted 11 saves in the loss for Cedar Crest.
The Falcons collected four ground balls. Graham had two while sophomore
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) had one. The final ground ball was credited to the team.
Cedar Crest also had 10 caused turnovers in the contest. The team was credited with six, junior
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) had two, and junior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) recorded one. With her pair of caused turnovers, Sipel became the program's all-time leader in the category with 49.
The Falcons rounded out the box score with eight draw controls. Graham led the way with three. Senior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) and first-year
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) had two apiece. Demarest tallied one to close the category.
Gormley paced Bryn Athyn with eight points on five goals and three assists.
Cedar Crest (4-3 overall, 0-2 United East) will welcome in Trinity Washington University for its next game on Thursday, April 11 at 6:00 p.m. Bryn Athyn (6-2 overall, 1-1 United East) will square off against Wilson College at home on Saturday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m.
