ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College wrestling team cruised to a 40-9 victory over Misericordia University on Wednesday night at Lees Gymnasium on Senior Night. The Falcons registered its eighth consecutive win and finished its 2024-25 home slate with a perfect 4-0 record.
Prior to the match, the program honored its two seniors
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and
Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T), along with graduate student
Rachel DeGiulio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area).
The match began with five forfeits with Jackson at 103, sophomore
Leilani Martinez (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township Senior) at 110, first-year
Mel Val (Tracy City, Tenn./St. Andrew's Sewanee) at 117, first-year
Arianna Gonzalez (Fallsburg, N.Y./Fallsburg Junior Senior) at 124, and sophomore
Alaina Stanford (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) at 131 to build a 25-0 lead.
DeGiulio collected a win via fall (2:16) over first-year Madelyne Stultz (Tobyhanna, Pa.). The graduate student finishes her career a perfect 3-0 inside Lees Gymnasium and helped push the score to 30-0.
First-year
Symarah Drey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) earned a victory by fall (0:37), topping first-year Kailey Remish (Hanover Township, Pa.) at 145 to extend the margin to 35-0.
The Cougars got on the board when first-year Elizabeth Adebola (Perth Amboy, N.J.) defeated Sabir by fall at 160.
Misericordia another victory at 180 first-year Sarah Lynn (Newville, Pa.) took down junior
Draydon Charman (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) by tech fall to make the score 35-9.
Sophomore
Sarah Seltzer (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) rounded out the match with a triumph by fall, defeating first-year Maya Landefeld (Harrisburg, Pa.) by fall, collecting the pin in just 14 seconds for the 40-9 final.
Cedar Crest (8-1 overall) will return to action on Saturday, January 18 at the Will Abele Open at Ursinus College beginning at 10:00 a.m. Misericordia (0-9 overall) next competes at Delaware Valley University on Friday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m.
