Delaware Valley Takes Two From Softball

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team was blanked by Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field. The Falcons were beaten 11-0 in five innings in game one and then the Aggies took game two by a 9-0 final in six innings.

Game One – Delaware Valley 11, Cedar Crest 0 (Five Innings)

Delaware Valley plated three runs in the top of the first. Sophomore Madison Karns (New Windsor, Md.) sent the first run home with a single through the left side, scoring senior Sierra Ripka (Souderton, Pa.). Junior Madison Donnelly (Marlton, N.J.) then drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing home junior Kenzie Boyd (Lurgan, Pa.). The final run of the frame came after junior Tori Bockrath (Collegeville, Pa.) reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed junior Amelia Funston (Doylestown, Pa.) to cross home for the 3-0 lead.

The Aggies tacked on four more in the second inning to increase its margin to 7-0.

After a scoreless third inning, Delaware Valley registered four more runs for the 11-0 final.

Karns recorded the win in the circle, striking out four, walking one, and allowing just two hits in five innings. First-year Erin Gray (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on five hits while walking three.

Six different Aggies registered two hits apiece.

Junior Natalie Hasert (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and senior Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter) had a hit each for the Falcons.

Game Two – Delaware Valley 9, Cedar Crest 0 (Six Innings)

Following a scoreless first, first-year Taylor Mazzoni (Warminster, Pa.) crossed home for the first tally of the game after a bunt by sophomore Jillian Collins (Shelbyville, Del.). The second run came after Ripka drove in Collins with a triple to center field for the 2-0 Delaware Valley advantage.

The next two innings featured no scoring and then the Aggies scored another pair in the fifth. Donnelly drove in both runs with a single up the middle to make the score 4-0.

Delaware Valley pushed five more runs across in the sixth to increase the margin to 9-0, the eventual final.

Gray allowed four runs on 12 hits over five innings while recording two strikeouts and took the loss. Senior BB Aquila (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) threw one inning, striking out two and walking two.

Boyd allowed just four hits while fanning four and walking two in the shutout.

Ripka went a team-best 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Aggies.

First-year Madison Nadasi (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudsburg North), sophomore Kate Gronkowski (Hanover Township, Pa./Hanover Area Junior Senior), first-year Jane Armbruster (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua), and first-year Abby Adams (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) picked up a hit each for Cedar Crest.

Cedar Crest (2-12 overall) remains home to host Marywood University on Friday, March 21 in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. Delaware Valley (7-2 overall) will stay on the road for a doubleheader at Centenary University on Thursday, March 20 at 3:00 p.m.
