ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team cruised to a 19-4 victory over Trinity Washington University in a non-conference contest at the FalconPlex on Tuesday night.
The Falcons started fast with eight goals in the opening quarter and added three more at the start of the second stanza to build an 11-0 lead. The 11-0 run was capped off by a goal from junior
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) with the helper going to sophomore
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) with 11:26 to play in the frame. After a goal from the Tigers, Cedar Crest netted four consecutive markers to extend the lead to 14, 15-1.
The home team outscored Trinity Washington 2-1 in the third quarter. Senior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) found the back of the net for the Falcons off an assist from classmate
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) with 11:05 remaining. The Tigers recorded another with 5:51 on the clock and then senior
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) scored at the 3:56 mark with the helper going to Schrader to make the score 17-2 entering the final 15 minutes.
The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter. Nzubechi Chukwocha and Nan-Elizebeth Holt tallied the markers for Trinity Washington while junior
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) scored off a pass from Graham and then Graham deposited the final goal for the 15-goal win, 19-4.
Sophomore
Irelyn Yoder (Wilmington, Del./Concord) picked up the win in goal for Cedar Crest. Alexandra Bernier converted three saves in the loss, playing 45 minutes.
Demarest and Schrader led the way for the Falcons with six points apiece. Demarest had three goals and three assists while Schrader recorded one goal and five assists. Graham collected five points on three goals and two assists. Sophomore
Lizzy DeNunzio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) supplied two goals and one helper. Terranova and sophomore
Jessica Shults (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) had two goals apiece. Rifino added a goal and an assist for two points while first-year
Angelina Plut (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional), Jackson, sophomore
Carly Piciullo (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), senior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit), and Bilger closed the scoring column with one goal each.
Cedar Crest scooped up six ground balls in the game. Piciullo had a pair while Graham, Jackson, Large, and Bilger each finished with one.
The Falcons recorded 14 caused turnovers in the contest. Demarest paced Cedar Crest with four, Graham had three, Jackson and Large each had two, while Piciullo, Schrader, and Plut closed the category with one apiece.
Cedar Crest also had 14 draw controls. Terranova had a team-high four. Demarest, Jackson, and Piciullo had two each, and Graham collected one.
Holt paced the Trinity Washington offense with three goals.
Cedar Crest (1-2 overall) will next play at Purchase College on Thursday, March 20 at 6:00 p.m. Trinity Washington (0-5 overall) stays on the road to face La Roche University on Saturday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m.
