PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team came away with a convincing 23-1 victory over Purchase College in non-conference play on Thursday night.
The Falcons jumped out to an early advantage by outscoring the Panthers 11-1 in the first quarter. Junior
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) netted a first quarter hat trick, while senior
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom), senior
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna), and sophomore
Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) found the back of the net twice. Junior
Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) and first-year
Lizzy DeNunzio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) each scored once in the first.
Demarest and Graham added to their stat lines with two goals each in the second stanza as Cedar Crest headed into the break ahead 15-1.
The visitors continued to run away with the contest by outscoring Purchase 2-0 in the third quarter. Senior
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) and first-year
Angelina Plut (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) deposited unassisted goals to stretch the score to 17-1.
The Falcons closed out the win with a 6-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter. Sophomore
Jessica Shults (Staten Island, N.Y./New Dorp) tallied one marker, Demarest recorded three straight goals, Graham followed with her fifth, while Sipel added the final goal of the game.
Graham finished the night with nine points on five goals and four assists in the win. Demarest had a career-high eight goals while Terranova (one goal, three assists) and Schrader (two goals, two assists) each notched four points.
In goal, sophomore
Irelyn Yoder (Wilmington, Del./Concord) earned her second victory of the season with a two-save outing.
The 23-goal performance from Cedar Crest was the program's highest offensive output since a 21-3 victory over Trinity Washington University on February 27, 2024.
The Falcons picked up 44 ground balls in the contest. Terranova had a game-high 11, Sipel scooped up six, Schrader recorded five, Graham, Bilger, and senior
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) tallied four apiece. Demarest, Plut, sophomore
Carly Piciullo (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), and senior
Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit) registered two, while Shults and DeNunzio closed the column with one apiece.
Cedar Crest also recorded 18 caused turnovers. Sipel, Schrader, and Jackson led the way with three each. Graham and Demarest had two, while Terranova, Bilger, Piciullo, Shults, and DeNunzio each had one.
The Falcons also had 21 draw controls. Terranova had a game-high 10, Graham followed with nine, while Demarest and Shults tallied one apiece.
Sophomore Catie Chios (Westbury, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for Purchase. Senior Amani Jamal (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) recorded 11 saves for the Panthers in the loss.
Cedar Crest (2-2 overall) will begin a two-game homestand on Saturday, March 22 as the Falcons host SUNY Old Westbury at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day. Purchase (0-3 overall) will next face SUNY Old Westbury on the road on Friday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m.
