Lacrosse Concludes Regular Season With Loss to Wilson

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team concluded the regular season with a 14-9 loss to Wilson College in a United East Conference game on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex.

Senior Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) started the scoring for the Falcons with an unassisted tally just 26 seconds into the contest. The Phoenix responded with two straight goals, one from senior Emily Young (Fairfax, Va.) and the other from sophomore Sadie Fike (McClure, Pa.) to grab a 2-1 lead. Cedar Crest came back with two consecutive goals with one apiece from senior Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and sophomore Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) to put the Falcons back in front, 3-2 with 3:11 remaining in the first. Wilson closed the quarter by scoring two straight goals to lead 4-3 at the end of one.

The Phoenix began the second stanza with two more goals to cap a 5-0 run and extend the margin to three, 6-3. The Falcons netted the last marker with 4:03 left in the half when Schrader put a shot home off a helper from Sipel, which made the score 7-4 at the break.

Junior Ellie Terranova (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant) opened the third with an unassisted goal at the 14:12 mark to trim the deficit to just two, 7-5. Wilson responded with a 4-0 run to round out the frame and carry an 11-5 lead into the final quarter.

Senior Sage Lague (Fairplay, Md.) registered two straight goals for the Phoenix to kick off the fourth, but a goal from Sipel with 8:18 remaining in regulation made the score 13-6. After a marker from Wilson, Cedar Crest would finish the game on a 3-0 run on goals by Graham, Schrader, and Sipel for the 14-9 final.

The Falcons held a 32-29 edge in shots.

Sophomore Kaelyn Goff (Union Bridge, Md.) made 10 saves in the win for the Phoenix. Sophomore Irelyn Yoder (Wilmington, Del./Concord) converted nine saves in the loss.

Sipel paced Cedar Crest with four points on three goals and one assist. Schrader had a hat trick. Graham recorded two goals. Terranova picked up a goal while sophomore Carly Piciullo (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) was credited with an assist.

Fike had a game-high six goals for Wilson.

The Falcons had 22 ground balls in the contest. Sipel had a team-high five. Senior Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) tallied three. Terranova, Piciullo, first-year Angelina Plut (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional), junior Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township), senior Ashley Large (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit), and Yoder recorded two apiece while Schrader and Graham each had one.

Cedar Crest picked up four caused turnovers in the contest with Sipel, Plut, Large, and Graham with one apiece.

The Falcons also had 10 draw controls. Sipel collected a team-high five. Graham and Terranova followed with two each. Demarest closed the column with one.

Cedar Crest (5-7 overall, 1-3 United East) now enters the United East Conference Championship Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday, April 26 in a semifinal matchup. Wilson (4-10 overall, 3-1 United East) has clinched the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament and will host third-seeded Bryn Athyn College on Saturday.
