Softball Swept By Wilson in Regular Season Finale

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College softball team dropped a pair of games to Wilson College by scores of 9-0 and 11-0 on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field.

Game One – Wilson 9, Cedar Crest 0 (Six Innings)

After two scoreless innings, the Phoenix posted one run in the top of the third. First-year Katelyn Keller (Orrtanna, Pa.) drove a fly ball out to center field and then senior Payton Kendall (McConnellsburg, Pa.) came around to score on a throwing error to make the score 1-0.

Wilson added four more runs in the fourth. First-year Jenna Weaver (Camp Hill, Pa.) crossed home on an RBI groundout by first-year Sydney Hartle (Keedysville, Md.). Keller then touched home on a wild pitch. First-year Carleigh Magers (Mount Airy, Md.) plated sophomore Kayla Talbert (Hagerstown, Md.) with a base hit up the middle. The Phoenix tacked on one more tally in the frame to push the score to 5-0.

The visitors registered four runs in the sixth. Hartle hit a two-run triple to center field, sophomore Caitlin Oliviero (Wernersville, Pa.) came around to score on a wild pitch, and sophomore Kiera O'Brine (Dillsburg, Pa.) touched home on a base from first-year Samantha Rybacki (Mechanicsburg, Pa.).

First-year Julia Wilkes (Abingdon, Md.) was awarded the win in the circle, striking out nine and walking two over six innings.

First-year Erin Gray (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) took the loss for the Falcons, giving up nine runs on 12 hits.

Keller and sophomore Lindsey Dalenberg (Niles, Mich.) paced Wilson with three hits apiece.

Game Two – Wilson 11, Cedar Crest 0 (Six Innings)

The Phoenix jumped on the scoreboard with four runs in the first inning. Magers started the offense with a two-run single down the left field line, bringing around Keller and Kendall. Rybacki then delivered a two-RBI double to center field to extend the score to 4-0.

Wilson posted a pair of tallies in the second on a two-run double to center field from the bat of Rybacki.

The visitors pushed four more across in the sixth. Kendall drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in sophomore Abigail Evans (Muncy, Pa.) and then Keller hit a grand slam to right field to push the score to 11-0.

Sophomore Rylee Piper (Newville, Pa.) secured the win in the circle for the Phoenix, fanning six over six innings of work.

First-year Alexis Acevedo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) gave up 11 runs on 15 hits while striking out one and walking three in the loss.

Dalenberg had a team-high three hits for Wilson.

Senior Alexis Kline (Allentown, Pa./Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter), first-year Madison Nadasi (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudsburg North), first-year Kylie Mastillo (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono), and senior Alex Mullen (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) each picked up a hit for Cedar Crest.

Cedar Crest (18-20 overall, 10-6 United East) has qualified for the United East Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face third-seeded Penn State Harrisburg in a best-of-three series starting with a doubleheader on Friday, May 3. Wilson (20-13 overall, 9-7 United East) has claimed the No. 7 seed for the United East Conference Tournament and will host tenth-seeded Rosemont College in a First Round contest on Wednesday, April 30.
