Track & Field Posts Highest-Ever Finish at United East Conference Championships

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Cedar Crest College track & field concluded an impressive weekend at the United East Conference Championships on Sunday, placing second overall, the highest-ever finish in program history, recording 134 points.

"No exaggeration when I say this is the best I've ever seen a team perform," said Head Track & Field Coach Jaryd Flank. "We were gamers over these past two days, and I could not be more proud of every athlete. It all came together and snagging a runner-up in the conference is huge."

The Falcons again grabbed multiple podium spots and set several program records.

Cedar Crest had three participants in the shot put, all hitting personal records. Junior Alana Connor (Manassas, Va./Charles J. Colgan) took fifth with a mark of 10.01 meters. Classmate Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) followed one spot behind in sixth, throwing 9.91 meters. First-year Gracie Domingo-Whitfield (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) closed out the Falcons in the field, tossing 8.42 meters.

Connor snagged a bronze medal in the hammer throw, registering a personal and program record of 37.65 meters. First-year Jemma Cazabon (Charleston, S.C./Philip Simmons) was eighth with a mark of 32.93 meters. Bozen followed in ninth (32.90 meters). Domingo-Whitfield (25.76 meters), sophomore Courtney Gibbons (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) (24.77 meters), and senior Heaven Bethea (Boynton Beach, Fla./South Tech Academy) (22.20 meters) rounded out the Cedar Crest representatives.

The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Linsey Nester (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg), sophomore Krishana Brooks (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch), senior Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T), and first-year Mel Val (Tracy City, Tenn./St. Andrew's Sewanee) crossed the finish line third for a bronze medal in a time of 53.25 seconds.

The Falcons had three on the track for the 1500-meter run. First-year Katherine Garcia () led the way for the team, placing sixth with a personal record time of 5:42.77. Senior MacKayla Reed (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area Senior) was ninth, crossing the finish line in 6:13.79. Junior Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) clocked a time of 6:54.49, taking 13th.

Cedar Crest had two participants in the 100-meter hurdles. Sabir picked up a silver medal, placing second in a personal record time of 20.14 seconds. Sophomore Lexus Kutz-Green () was fourth (22.20 seconds).

The Falcons had three finish in the top five of the 400-meter dash. Val tallied a personal and program record time of 1:01.52 with a second-place finish. Nester took third with a personal record time of 1:05.26. First-year Erica Cook (Deming, Wash./Mount Baker) closed out the top five finishers with a time of 1:07.52.

Nester captured the conference title in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a program record time of 1:12.54. Sabir snagged a bronze medal with a third-place finish (1:19.30). Kutz-Green took sixth with a personal record time of 1:30.33.

Cook and Garcia went four-five in the 800-meter run, registering times of 2:40.13 and 2:46.48, respectively.

First-year Giada Smith (Springtown, Pa./Palisades) took sixth in the 5000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 23:35.29.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Nester, Cook, Garcia, and Val took third place with a program record time of 4:29.74.

Cedar Crest will next compete at the Widener Final Qualifer on Monday, May 12.
