ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College softball team collected two convincing victories over Keystone College in United East Conference play on Tuesday at Cynthia L. Blaschak Field, winning the first game 11–3 and the second game 11–1.
Game One – Cedar Crest 11, Keystone 3 (Five Innings)
The Falcons scored five runs in the first inning with key contributions. Senior
Laney Ferraro (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter) doubled down the left field line, driving in sophomore
Abby Adams (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) and junior
Kate Gronkowski (Hanover Township, Pa./Hanover Area Junior Senior). First-year
Madacyn Snyder (Wind Gap, Pa./Pen Argyl) followed with a bunt single, allowing Ferraro to score. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Stock (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) singled, advancing Snyder to third, and sophomore
Emily Christopher (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton Area) tripled to bring in both runners. Cedar Crest led 5–2 at the end of the first inning.
The second frame saw the Falcons extend their lead with six more runs. Adams tripled, and Gronkowski's inside-the-park home run brought in two runs. Sophomore
Kylie Mastillo (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) singled and stole second, later scoring on Ferraro's triple. Snyder also tripled, driving in Ferraro. Stock doubled to drive in Snyder, and Christopher's double brought in Stock, making it 11–2.
The Giants added a run in the fourth, but the Cedar Crest early lead proved decisive. The Falcons maintained the advantage, closing the game with an 11–3 victory.
For Cedar Crest, Gronkowski recorded a home run and drove in two runs while scoring twice. Ferraro added three RBI with a double and a triple, supporting the scoring effort with two runs of her own. Snyder collected three hits, including a triple, and contributed two RBI while crossing the plate twice. Sophomore
Alexis Acevedo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) pitched a complete game, striking out six batters over five innings to secure the win.
Game Two – Cedar Crest 11, Keystone 1 (Five Innings)
The second inning was pivotal for the Falcons in game two, starting with Snyder reaching first on a throwing error and eventually scoring on Stock's triple. Christopher followed with an RBI single, and junior
Brooke Trentler (Whiteford, Md./North Harford) added a double to drive in another run. Gronkowski capped the inning with an RBI single, bringing the Cedar Crest lead to 4–0 after two innings.
In the third inning, the Falcons extended their lead significantly. Mastillo and Ferraro each singled, setting the stage for Snyder's RBI single. Christopher and senior
Natalie Hasert (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) added RBI singles, and Gronkowski's single loaded the bases for sophomore
Madison Nadasi (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudsburg North), who cleared them with a triple. Mastillo's double drove in another run, ending the inning with Cedar Crest leading 11–0.
Keystone managed to score one run in the fourth inning on a single by Briana Aponte (), but the Falcons maintained control of the game. Cedar Crest held the Giants scoreless in the fifth inning to secure the win with a final score of 11–1.
For the Falcons, Nadasi contributed with two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Christopher recorded three hits and two RBIs, adding a double to her performance. Sophomore
Erin Gray (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run over five innings and striking out two. Snyder crossed home plate twice and added a stolen base.
First-year Shalimar Lopez Ramirez (Baltimore, Md.) stood out for Keystone in both games, showcasing her hitting prowess with a perfect 2-for-2 performance in the second game and contributing a stolen base.
Cedar Crest (12-10 overall, 4-4 United East) will remain home to play host to York College (N.Y.) for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 11 starting at 1:00 p.m. Keystone (2-12 overall, 0-6 United East) next hosts Gallaudet in a league twinbill on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
