Immaculata, PA - Senior
Natalia Dial (Kannapolis, PA/Jesse C. Carson) came up big in the second game of a CSAC doubleheader at Immaculata, helping Cedar Crest to a split with the Mighty Macs that may end up having playoff implications. The Falcons lost the opener 9-1, then won the nightcap 4-1.
In the first game, the Macs had the Falcons back on their heels right from the start by scoring six runs in the first inning. Freshman
Amanda Schaffer (Bath, PA/Northampton Area) gave up 17 hits and had three strikeouts in just over five innings but Cedar Crest also struggled offensively, mustering just three hits themselves. Schaffer drove in the Falcons' only run of the game with a single in the fourth inning that advanced sophomore
Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory). Wenner got on with a lead-off double in the fourth.
The roles were reversed in game two as the Macs struggled to put up runs. Dial went seven innings and gave up just 10 hits, but she really proved her worth with a lead-off homer in the fourth inning that broke a three-inning scoreless tie. Freshman Breanna Coleman then had an RBI single to put Cedar Crest up 2-0 after four. Dial struck again in the fifth with a single that helped advance senior Sam Olier, then by scoring the fourth run herself on an error by the catcher. Coleman ended up with three singles and an RBI in four at bats
The Falcons are now 13-11 over all and 6-4 in the conference, while Immaculata is 14-16 and 9-5 in the CSAC. The Falcons' next game will be at home versus CSAC Centenary on Wednesday, March 23rd at 3:00 PM.
