Rosemont, PA – The recent trend of the Cedar Crest lacrosse team has been headed in the right direction, with two close games and a noticeable increase in offensive output. On Saturday, the team finally put it all together for their first win of the season, a CSAC victory over Rosemont College.
The eventual outcome looked apparent from the start, as freshman Olga Cauble (Concord, NH/Concord) scored two unanswered goals in the first minute of play, both on feeds from Tara Fikes (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester). Cedar Crest opened up a three-goal lead in the first five minutes and were able to keep that margin throughout the first half. The Falcons also had two first-half goals from junior Becca Lowe (Richmond, VA/James River), two from senior Tara Fikes (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester), one from Kara Malysza (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East), and even one from first-year player Lizy Sunderhaus en route to a 8-5 halftime score.
Fikes scored two more quick goals to open the second half, and though the Ravens whittled the lead back down to three at 10-7 a few minutes into the half, they would get no closer through the rest of the contest. The final score was 15-10.
The Falcons outshot the Ravens 34-29 and had more than twice as many draw controls at 19-8. Cedar Crest goalie Katie Brown (Catskill, NY/Catskill) had nine saves, and sophomore Jen Harbison (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) had 11 ground balls.
With the win, the Falcons are now 1-12 overall and 1-5 in the CSAC, while Rosemont is still searching for their first win after 12 games. Cedar Crest's next game will be against CSAC foe Cabrini College at home on Senior Day, Tuesday, April 17th, at 4:00 p.m.
