Fikes Hits the Century Mark in a Loss to Cabrini

4/17/2012 9:21:00 PM

Allentown, PA – On Tuesday, the final home game of the Cedar Crest lacrosse season meant that it was Senior Day, and so it was particularly fitting that senior Tara Fikes (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) scored her 100th career goal in front of family and friends on hand to wish her well.

Seniors Fikes, Kenzie Bickhart (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area), Kara Malysza (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East), and Lizzy Sunderhaus were honored in the pre-game before the Falcons took the field against Cabrini College, one of the top teams in the CSAC. Although the outcome was an 18-2 loss, Fikes' accomplishment shone a small ray of sunshine on the afternoon.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of play before Fikes scored her 100th on a shot from a Becca Lowe (Richmond, VA/James River) feed which found the net at the 23:56 mark. Without leading scorer Olga Cauble (Concord, NH/Concord) on the field however, the goal would be the Falcons' only scoring for almost the entire half as Cabrini raced out to a 13-1 lead. Finally sophomore Erin Studer (Kent, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) was able to score a goal, also from Lowe, with just :07 to go before the half to make it 13-2 at the break.

In the second half the Cavs subbed liberally from their deep roster and wore down the overmatched Falcons. They added five goals in the half to reach the 18-2 final score. The visitors dominated the game in all facets, with healthy margins in shots, ground balls and draw controls. Twelve players scored for Cabrini, but none more than two goals.

Cedar Crest goalie Katie Brown (Catskill, NY/Catskill) had six saves, and sophomore Jen Harbison (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) had five ground balls.

With one game remaining, the Falcons are now 1-13 overall and 1-6 in the CSAC. Cabrini improves to 6-8 overall and 6-1 in the conference. Cedar Crest's final game will be at CSAC foe Immaculata University on Saturday, April 21st, at 1:00 p.m.
