The Cedar Crest Falcons came out in new snazzy pink game jerseys for their "Think Pink" game this past Saturday as they hosted the Neumann University Knights. The fans also supported the team, as many came out in pink attire supporting breast cancer awareness.
The Falcons came out strong in the first half, fighting hard for the ball in the midfield, and getting on attack more regularly than in previous games. Unfortunately the Knights were too speedy up top for the Falcon defense as they sped by, and had many attempts on goal. The Cedar Crest team was forced to play smartly knowing the opposing teams' strengths. The Knights found the net in the 16th minute off of a cross from the right side of the field. The Falcons weren't deterred by this as they held their heads up and continued to fight for the equalizer. The Falcons held off the Knights for some time, until they got their second goal in the 40th minute off of another cross, and their third soon after in the 43rd minute. The half would end at 3-0. Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) had three shots and Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade H.S.) 5 saves in the first half.
The Knights continued to dominate the game, as they scored in the 1st minute of the second half, and then shortly after in the 50th minute. The frustration on the Falcons face was beginning to show, but players like Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool), Shaquira Mccottry, and Samantha Carter (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) particularly showed outstanding effort in keeping the Falcons motivated and goal hungry. The Knights would go on to score 4 more times before the game ended. The game ended at 9-0 in favor of the Knights.
After the game, coach Sarah Wolcott said "I was really happy with how we played for the first 35 minutes. It was probably the best soccer we've played all season. We played as a team and we supported each other. Unfortunately, we lapsed in the second half back to some of our past patterns that have gotten us into trouble. We have a talented team- we just need to work and stay focused for the entirety of the game. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we put together a full 90 minutes and we will be successful. Shaquira Mccottry had a great game today, and so did Samantha Carter (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira). Â They stepped up and played hard for us today. Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade H.S.) also did a solid job turning away some pretty difficult shots from a relentless Neumann attack.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to a 2-11-0 overall record and 0-6-0 in conference play, they will return to the field this Tuesday when they host Baptist Bible College at 4pm.
