Box Score Allentown, PA
Allentown, Pa- Looking to secure their first win in conference play, the Cedar Crest Falcons hosted the Immaculata University Mighty Macs this past Tuesday afternoon at the Cedar Crest Field.
Due to an unlucky touch, the Mighty Macs got on the scoring board early when one of the Cedar Crest players gave up an unfortunate own goal in the 5th minute. The Falcons picked up their heads, and continued playing strong making it tough for the Immaculata team to get forward. Unfortunately the Mighty Macs found a way around the Falcons defense in the 28th and soon after in the 29th minute again. The Falcons were unable to figure out how to stop the opposing team on attack, as they slipped another one by goalkeeper Kristina Brandveen (Williamsburg,VA/Warhill High School) in the 32nd minute. Freshman, Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon), responded with a great free kick strike that the Mighty Macs goalkeeper had no chance of saving; this is her second goal off of a free kick for the season. The Mighty Macs would go on to score once more in the 41st minute before the half ended. The half ended at 5-1.
In the second half, the Falcons played a much stronger game, as they improved their shot count and possession percentage. Freshman, Kim Incontrera (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) got her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute, as she slot it in corner of the net. Unfortunately the girls took their foot off the gas for a minute and the Mighty Macs took advantage of that and slotted one by goalkeeper, Krysten Gillian in the 54th minute. The Mighty Macs finished off scoring in the 89th minute off of a corner. The game would end at 7-2 in favor of the Mighty Macs. Leading goal scorer, Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) finished the game with 6 shots on target and Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) with 3. Krysten Gillian had 5 saves.Â
After the game coach Sarah Wolcott said "The team played well when we were switched on, unfortunately we weren't switched on for 90 minutes. We have yet to string a full 90 minutes together, the day that we do, we will cause a lot more trouble for our opponents. On the other hand, I was pleased that two of our freshmen stepped up and scored today."
The Falcons fall to a 2-10-0 overall record and 0-5-0 in CSAC play and will return to the field this Saturday for their Think Pink game as they host Neumann University at 1pm.
