Scranton, Pa.
With the playoffs in view of the Cedar Crest Falcons softball team, they knew that it was going to be a tough road ahead as they entered the last two weeks of conference play.
Friday nights opponent was no different for the Falcons. Marywood University (10-3 CSAC) has played well down the stretch and already captured a playoff berth currently sitting 5th overall in the CSAC.
The Falcons however are still in the playoff hunt as they are currently 1.5 games back of Cabrini College for the sixth and final spot in the CSAC Conference playoffs.
Game one would go Marywoods way with Freshman
Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) scoring on a wild pitch in the 5th to score the Falcons lone run of game one.
Jeniffer Hallowell (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) finished 1 for 3 with a walk,
Tammy Touhsaent (Mertztown, PA/Kutztown Area) would go 1 for 2 and Jones 1 for 3 with 1 run scored. The Falcons managed to work 4 walks against starting pitcher Alexandra Stine, but hits would be at a minimum as Stine would strike out 6 on her way to a game 1 win.
Game 2 spelled more base runners for the Falcons, but the runs would be hard to come by. Hallowell and senior ace
Natalia Dial (Kannapolis, PA/Jesse C. Carson) both finished 2 for 4, while junior
Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) and senior
Alyson Mason (Salem, CT/East Lyme) both finished 1 for 3. Dial finished with the lone extra base hit, a double off of Katherine King.
Dial would toe the rubber both games for the Falcons as their overall record fell to 8-12 and 6-8 in the CSAC.
The Falcons take to the road again Saturday, as they travel to take on Notre Dame in CSAC action.
