Allentown, PA.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, the perfect day to play the game of softball, The Cabrini Cavaliers and the Cedar Crest Falcons put a side their rivalry and joined forces to try to make one little girls dream. Her name is Lia and she is part of DREAM COME TRUE, an organization that helps children by fulfilling wishes of children with life threatening illnesses. Lia did her part and took part in the pregame ceremonies throwing out the first pitch that resulted in a roar by the 50 plus on hand.
It was also senior day for the Falcons as three departing seniors got one last chance to play on the diamond.
Laura Swanhall (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville),
Alyson Mason (Salem, CT/East Lyme), and
Natalia Dial (Kannapolis, PA/Jesse C. Carson) were each honored with flowers and poems by their teammates.
Then it was game time and the Falcons and Cavaliers would not disappoint. The Cavs would take a quick 1-0 lead, thanks in part to a Dial error to start the game, then would be held scoreless until the third when she would smack a single up the middle that would plate Cooper from third.
The Falcons would strike back in the bottom half with a
Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) single that would score
Jeniffer Hallowell (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) from second to cut the lead to one.
It would be a pitching duel for the remainder of game one as both Dial and Miller would not be score on the remainder of the game.
The Falcons did make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh and put two on before closing out the game with a pop fly.
Game one saw the Falcons pull in eight hits, Mason, Wenner and catcher
Tammy Touhsaent (Mertztown, PA/Kutztown Area) each finished with two a piece while Hallowell and Swanhall would each add one in the process.
Dial's game one line looked very effective as she finished with 8 hits allowed, 2 runs allowed, 1 earned with 4 strikeouts and one walk issued.
After a short break to welcome
Christian Porter (above) to the field to sing some of Lia's favorite songs, game two would get underway.
The Falcons would drop game two in five innings losing 9-1.
Cedar Crest finishes the year with an overall record of 10-17 overall and 8-14 in the conference.
