Tennis Falls to Former Champ

8/30/2013 9:56:00 PM

Allentown, PA.

In the Home, Season, and Conference opener all on the same day, the Cedar Crest College Falcons and the Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins would meet up for a CSAC tennis match.  The Griffins coming off a 2012 CSAC championship and the Falcons looking to take advantage of their depth.

#1 Singles would see senior Amy Frey (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) battle with Rachel Fein and see Fein win 6-0, and 6-0.  #2 through #4 singles would all go the Griffins way, but that would stop as Rakia Otoo (Bronx, NY/Manhattan Center for Science & Math) had seen enough of the Griffins winning streak and looked to put an end to it.  Otoo would do just that winning the #5 singles by a final of 8-4.  Newcomer Olga Cauble (Concord, NH/Concord) would come up next in the #6 singles and see an opportunity to continue the streak disappear as she too would fall 6-0, 6-0.

#1 & #3 doubles would both be scoreless for the Falcons, but #2 doubles featuring Otoo and Freshman standout Emily Bryk (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) would score on the team of Taylor Michener and Kristen Kriebel, two standouts expected to make a run at the conference championship again this year.

Head Coach Lynn Pigialicampi was happy with the way her team played, "I think we came out and had some good matches today, Gwynedd is a tough team to start with, but I think we can use this as a learning experience and really grow from it".

Up next for the Falcons, they will travel to PSU-Abington for a non-conference match on September 6th.
