Looking to avoid their third straight loss, the Cedar Crest tennis team took to the road to battle the Alvernia Crusaders in Reading, PA.
In Doubles competition the team of
Amy Frey (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) and Jamie Wojiechowski looked to turn their luck around as they battled in the #1 Doubles. Â The action would be fierce and the Falcons and Crusaders would trade points back and forth before Alvernia would take the #1 Doubles 8-3.
In the #2 doubles of the day freshman
Emily Bryk (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and savy veteran
Rakia Otoo (Bronx, NY/Manhattan Center for Science & Math) would put extra effort into their match looking to turn the Falcons luck around. Â Otoo and Bryk come the nearest to beating the Crusaders falling 8-4 in the #2 doubles.
In the #3 doubles
Olga Cauble (Concord, NH/Concord) and
Kyleen Sisson (Laceyville, PA/Elk Lake) would also see the wrong side of the scorecard and fall 8-1.
In singles competition Frey and Wojiechowski would both drop their first sets, Frey 6-0 and Wojiechowski 6-1. Â Set two would be more of the same for the two as they would both drop the second set.
Bryk, Otoo and Cauble also saw their first sets get away from them as they too would also drop their sets. Â The #4 singles battle between
Kyleen Sisson (Laceyville, PA/Elk Lake) and Lillian Hussar would make things interesting. Â Hussar would barely edge out Sisson 6-4 in set one to take a quick lead. Â Sisson would rally and take set two 7-5 to even things up. Â Hussar would rally however once again and take set three 10-4.
"I thought they played well today" said head coach
Lynn Pigliacampi, "We've hit a little rough patch, but I'm sure that these girls will turn things around soon, they are fighters and I believe in them"
The Falcons now fall to 2-4 and will have some time off before they travel to Sarah Lawrence College on the 24th. Â The match is set to begin at 5:00 PM.
