Looking to continue their hot streak the Cedar Crest College Falcons opened up conference play Wednesday afternoon against the Marywood University Pacers.
The Falcons would open up the game in scoring as
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) and
Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) would continue their trend all season as Rittle would put the first goal of the game in the 11th minute. Â But 21 seconds later the Pacers would strike right back with a Krista Capelli goal as she was led by Elizabeth Carlson to tie the game at 1-1. Â
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) would come right back one minute later and put her ninth goal of the season in for and put the Falcons back on top 2-1. Â "No doubt she is a tremendous soccer player, she has great soccer IQ, from the first moment I saw her play I knew she was going to be special, to be honest, she works for 90 minutes and she works for everything" said Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott "I'm really suprised she hasn't gotten more this season the way she is playing." Â Long has now totaled 10 goals on the season in just six games. Â Her entire freshman season, she collected only eight goals.
Another player that stepped up for the Falcons was newly appointed goal keeper
Kim Incontrera (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner). Â Incontrera or "Lil Kim" as her teammates call her was put into the goal just seven minutes into the game due to a knee injury to starter
Kristina Brandveen (Williamsburg,VA/Warhill High School). Â Despite playing the field for the majority of the season, Incontrera played like a pro and would finish with 15 saves on the game. Â "She's a goalie by trade, so she just happens to be good enough at this game, but it was a little nerve racking to take her off the field" said Wolcott "but I was confident that she could go in and hold her own." Â Incontrera would surely hold her own, playing nearly 83:00 minutes to finish up the game.
The Falcons would fall in the second half 4-0 and eventually in the game 8-2. Â When asked about what the attitude will be at practice tomorrow, Coach Wolcott had this to say "Attitude is definitley key for tomorrow, and moving forward, we got down on oursleves a little too much there at the end, which is semi-understandable, but we need to make sure we continue to work hard everyday and work for each other."
The Falcons fall to 2-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the CSAC and will take to the road for their next game as they travel to Wellesley College in Boston, MA. Â Game time is set for a 1 PM start on the 28th. Â
