In their regular season opener the Cedar Crest College Softball traveled to the Bronx to take on non-conference opponent Lehman College.
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would toe the rubber for the Falcons in Game 1, going the distance for the Falcons while giving up just three earned runs. Â The difference maker for the Falcons in game one would be six errors commited by the Falcons defense. Â
Offensively, the Falcons would have no problem scoring runs, as they would plate six runs in the first three innings and five in the last two including four in the seventh. Â
Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) led the Falcons in game one finishing 3 for 5 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Â Wenner would also connect with her first home run of the year, a 3-run homer in the top of the second. Â Baxter,
Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and
Javara Troupe (Tampa, FL/Tampa Bay Tech) would all finish with multiple hits.
The Falcons would drop game one 12-11.
Sophomore
Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) would start game two for the Falcons, but would be chased off after just one inning giving up three runs and walking three. Â Game one starter
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would pitch in relief the final 4 1/3 innings, giving up 11 runs, but only two of them were earned.
The Falcons bats would once again have no problem scoring early, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Â
Javara Troupe (Tampa, FL/Tampa Bay Tech),
Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) and
Rakia Otoo (Bronx, NY/Manhattan Center for Science & Math) all finished with multiple hits, while
Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory),
Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS),
Chelsea Klausfelder (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen High School) and
Tammy Touhsaent (Mertztown, PA/Kutztown Area) all finished with RBI's.
The Falcons would drop game two 14-6.
