Softball Continues Spring Play

Cape Coral, Fl- Cedar Crest College would drop two in their second day of competition at the Gene Cusic Classic Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida against Alverno College and Wilmington College.  
The Falcons (0-3) would fall short in a close 2-0 game to Alverno College (3-5).  The Falcons put together strong defense to hold the Inferno scoreless until the fourth inning when a sacrifice bunt from Ashleigh Sagat earned the first run of the game and a single from Stephanie Skibba giving the the Inferno a 2-0 lead.  Solid defense from Junior Javara Troupe (Tampa, FL/Tampa Bay Tech) throwing a runner out at home to hold the score 2-0 and Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) who earned four strike outs on the game. At bat senior Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) and Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS) would record singles to wrap up game one.  
In game two the Falcons would start off strong with Troupe being walked, followed up by sophomore Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) who earned a single beating out a bunt and moving the runner.   Jones would earn a single with a slap hit from the left side unfortunately the runners would get caught stealing and would let up six runs in the second inning.  Wenner would earn her third hit of the day, and freshman Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would earn a walk but the Falcons just missed the scoreboard, while the Fighting Quakers would capitalize and earn another five runs.  Baxter was injured late in the fourth inning to bring in Clayton for her collegiate pitching debut, going three up three down with solid defense dropping game two 17-0.
Cedar Crest will look to improve their record tomorrow in their final day of the tournament facing St. John Fisher College at 9:00am and Milwaukee School of Engineering at 11:00am.
