Wenner Collects 150th Career Hit, Falcons Fall

4/26/2014 7:05:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Hackettstown, NJ

In what was scheduled to be the final home game for Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) and Tammy Touhsaent (Mertztown, PA/Kutztown Area), the Cedar Crest Falcons Softball team had to take to the road and play at Centenary due to unplaybe field conditions in Allentown.

In game one the Falcons first innings looked promising as Javara Troupe (Tampa, FL/Tampa Bay Tech) led off with a bunt single and stole second, followed by Touhsaents single which put runners on the corners as freshman Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would ground out to second scoring Troupe from 3rd and put the Falcons on the board.  Unfortunately for the Falcons, those two hits and one run in the first would be most of the offense the team would see all day.  Only Wenner would add her 149th career hit, a single for the game as the Falcons would drop Game One 9-1.
Game two featured Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) on the mound for the game as she would surrender two runs in the first and three more in the second before the Falcons offense would light their spark.  In the 3rd, Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) would strike out and Javara Troupe (Tampa, FL/Tampa Bay Tech) would come to the plate, Troupe would lay down a bunt single and due to an error on the Cyclones catcher Passaro, Troupe would round all of the bases and score the Falcons first run of the game.  Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) would then lace a single through the left side and once again Baxter would come up with a runner on.  Baxter would crush a deep double to left field that would score Clayton all the way from first and a heads up base running would put Baxter on third.  After a Centenary pitching change Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) would walk up looking for her 150th Career hit, instead of finding that she would ground out to the second basemen scoring Baxter from third for the Falcons third run of the inning.

Wenner would however find her 150th in the top of the 6th as she would smoke a single up the middle.

On the mound Clayton walked six over six innings while forcing 10 fly outs and six ground outs.
