Box Score 4 The Cedar Crest Softball team is looking to rebound after coming off 4 extremely difficult games at the Tucson Invitational Games. In the opener against Baldwin Wallace on Monday CCC gave up 3 runs in the 2nd inning and another 5 runs in the 6th and could only muster 2 hits by freshmen Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) and Jackie Gallagher (). Freshman April Daly () pitched 5.1 innings giving up 10 hits, striking out 2 and walking 4 in her CCC debut. The final score was Baldwin Wallace 8 CCC 0.
The second game on Monday featured more offense for CCC but the same result losing 12-4 to Southwestern University. Southwestern put up 5 runs in the opening frame however, CCC promptly answered with 3 of their own. After a leadoff walk by Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) and back to back to singles by Jackie Gallagher () and Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley), Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) ripped a two-run double to left center. Next Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) hit a deep fly ball to left center which Southwestern University's left fielder made an unbelievable catch to rob Amanda of extra bases. However, Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) was able to score on the fly ball. Southwestern scored 2 more runs in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th and CCC answered with 1 in the 5thafter Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) doubled to left center and then stole third and reached home on a deep fly ball to right hit by Jackie Gallagher (). Freshman Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School), gave up 9 hits, walked 8, and struck out 1 pitching all 7 innings.
The second day at the Tucson Invitational Games did not get any easier. The first game was against a Division II team, Bemidji University. April Daly () started strong shutting down Bemidji's first 3 hitters. However, Bemidji's bats came alive in the 2nd inning scoring 5 runs on 7 hits and 2 CCC errors. CCC had 2 hits in contest, one by Rachael Stump and the other by Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley). April Daly () pitched 4.2 innings giving up 12 hits, no walks, and 1 strike out. The final score was Bemidji University 8 – CCC 0.
In the second game on Tuesday CCC looked to rebound against the 31st ranked Division III in the nation, Alfred University. Alfred University jumped out early scoring 3 runs in the 1st and 4 runs in the 2nd. However, in the 4th inning Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) ripped a line drive single off the glove of Alfred's pitcher and Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) then belted a two run home run to left field to cut the lead to 7-2. But it wasn't enough as Alfred University added one run in the bottom of the 4th and 2 more in the 5th to win 10-2. Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) gave up 4 earned runs on 10 hits and 2 walks in the loss.
