Box Score 2 The Cedar Crest Softball team was hoping to rebound from an 0-4 start but came up just short on the 3rd day at the Tucson Invitational Games. Both games on Thursday were against the College of Staten Island. In the opener Cedar Crest started strong behind the pitching of
Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) and a very stingy defense holding Staten Island to just one run on three hits through the first five innings. However, Cedar Crest had an inning to forget committing four errors leading to seven runs (six of which were unearned). Cedar Crest's lone run was scored by
Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) who was driven in on Amanda Baxter's double. The final score was College of Staten Island 8 – Cedar Crest 1.
In the 2nd game, Cedar Crest jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Lilly Acosta reached on an error and then
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) was hit by a pitch and
Jackie Gallagher () walked loading the bases for
Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School). Amanda doubled down the 3rd base line driving in Acosta and Martinez.
Jackie Gallagher () then scored on
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City)'s ground out. Cedar Crest added two more runs in the 3rd inning on RBI singles by
April Daly () and
Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park High School). Starting pitcher,
April Daly () pitched three shutout innings but in the 4th Cedar Crest committed two costly errors which lead to three Staten Island runs. Staten Island added two more runs in the 5th tying the game at 5. Cedar Crest jumped ahead again in the top of the 6th when
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) led off with a double and then stole 3rd and scored on an errant throw. Staten
Island scored a run in the bottom of the 6th and then won the game with a walk off hit in the bottom of the 7th. The final score was College of Staten Island 7 – Cedar Crest College 6.
On the final day in Tucson, Cedar Crest will play Loras College at 8am and Crown University at 10am.
