Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. ---The Cedar Crest College soccer team traveled to Wilson College for a non-conference match and after about a 45 minute delay due to thunder the teams finished in a 0-0 draw.
"We came out and played really hard and played some of the best soccer I've seen us play," stated Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "We looked to possess and play fee, and we had a ton of chances on net. We had multiple players just barely miss the mark, and Wilson's goalkeeper did a great job of keeping us off the board. The 0-0 draw is not reflective of how we played. We did what we need to do, but couldn't find the back of the net. I think the weather got the best of us today. We had great momentum when we had to break for thunder in the second half and when we came back out it took us a little while to find our rhythm again."
The Falcons outshot Wilson 22 to eight, senior forward
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) was the first to fire off back-to-back shots in the first half both being saved and a total of five shots in the first half. Sophomore midfielder
Kari Vanderslice also got back-to-back shots off in the 36
th minute but the keeper came up with saves again. Junior midfielder
Kim Incontrera (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner), freshman back
Ashely Heffelfinger and junior midfielder
Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) all had shots on net in the first half.
In the second half, the falcons fired off nine shots with freshman
Alexandra Zoda (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. /Roy C Ketcham Senior High School) riffled off the first shot with the goalkeeper making another save.
Long challenged the keeper four times in the second half that were fought off to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard. Freshman midfielder
Kayla Daniels tried in the final minute of regulation time to get Cedar Crest the win, but the Phoenix goalkeeper made the save.
Both
Heffelfinger and
Daniels managed to get shots off in overtime, but with a strong presence from the Wilson goalkeeper the Falcons walked away with a 0-0 draw.
Next up for the Falcons is Monday, September 14 at Medgar Evers College with kick-off slated for 6:00 p.m. in Brooklyn N.Y.
