Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. --- Two members of the Cedar Crest College soccer team notched hat-tricks as they traveled to Brooklyn, N.Y. for a non-conference match with Medgar Evers College in a 12-0 win Monday evening.
"Today we were able to work the ball around the field," stated Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. We did a good job switching points of attack which will help us as we head into conference play this weekend."
In the first half, sophomore midfielder
Jackalyn Beckett (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) wasted no time to get the Falcons on the scoreboard beating the goalkeeper to the lower right side one minute into the game with the assist by sophomore midfielder
Kari Vanderslice (Clementon, NJ/Highland Regional). Freshman
Kayla Daniels (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood High School) would take the goalkeeper on one-on-one on a breakaway finding the left side of the back of the net for a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the game.
Vanderslice played a ball across the middle for senior forward
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) to finish to the right past the goalie for her first goal of the year.
Long found the back of the net again when she fired one into the left side of the net from a ball
Beckett placed in from the right side.
Daniels score her second goal by sending a ball into the opposite side netting.
Daniels would find herself on another breakaway to complete her first hattrick beating the keeper to the right for a 6-0 lead heading into halftime.
Long netted her third goal of the night four minutes into the half when she stole ball off a pass in front of the net to put the ball into the lower left corner. In the 70
th minute
Vanderslice would fire a shot into the lower right corner on a nice ball from
Heffelfinger from the right wing.
Beckett scored her second goal in the 74
th minute finding the left side of the goal.
Vanderslice would score her second goal of the match in the 75
th minute as
Beckett played a ball into the middle of the field, this shot would deflect of the keepers gloves and find its way into the back of the net.
Beckett scored her first hat-trick by firing off a deep shot from the right side finding the opposite side of the goal. The final goal for Cedar Crest would come in the 85
th minute as
Long got her fourth goal helping earn freshman goalkeeper
Shelby Szoke (White Haven, Pa./Crestwood High School) her fourth shutout in a row.
The Falcons next game opens their Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule as they head to Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday, September 19 for 12:00 p.m. start.
