Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team split their first day of games in Florida at The Spring Games in Clearmont. They fell 14-0 to Manhattanville College first but bounced back with a 5-3 win over SUNY Potsdam on Sunday morning.
Sophomore outfielder
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) got things started in the second game for the Falcons as she singled through the left side for the hit of the inning and would be left on base. Cedar Crest would produce two innings of three up, three down to bring up bottom of the third. With runners on first and second from walks, junior catcher
Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) singled up the middle advancing to second and an RBI to take a 1-0 lead.
Potsdam took the lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth but the Falcons would tie the game at two by the end of the inning. Freshman outfielder
Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) singled to through the right side and advanced to second on the next batter. Sophomore first baseman
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) doubled deep to right center to drive in the tying run.
Bottom of the fifth, sophomore shortstop
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) ripped a triple down the left field line as the next two batter were walked. A run would score on a drop third strike play and then a single up the middle by freshman designated player
Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (/Southern Lehigh) drove in two more runs.
After nine innings in two games, freshman pitcher
Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) finished with five strike outs on the day.
The Falcons begin day two against Messiah College at 5:00 p.m. and then face Lancaster Bible College at roughly 7:00 p.m. at Fountain Academy in Clermont, FL.
