Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College softball team extended their winning streak to six games as the defeated Summit University 17-0 and 4-3 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play improving to 16-10 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
Sophomore shortstop
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) singled to left field to begin the game and would score later on in the play due to an error. Sophomore first basemen
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) doubled and would advance to third on a single by designated player
Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (/Southern Lehigh). Junior catcher
Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) hit an RBI single while freshman pitcher
Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) hit an RBI double to take a 3-0 lead.
A three-up, three-down defensive inning for the Falcons allowed three more hits and three more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore outfielder
Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) singled and later advanced to third. Freshman outfielder
Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) reached first on an error that scored a run.
Martinez singled for another RBI and freshman third basemen
Amiee Sarboukh hit a single to take the lead 6-0.
Quick defense led the Falcons to 10 run, nine hit inning in the bottom of the third.
Stump singled as freshman
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) pinch ran to be scored on the next hit by
Rau who doubled. Acosta was walked scoring another run. With bases loaded
Schnaubelt hit a single for two RBIs and would score on a single by
Ortiz-Siffel.
Stump singled and advanced to third on an RBI single to center field by
Rau.
Acosta hit an RBI single and would score on a two run double by sophomore outfielder
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ). Schnaublet hit a home run in the fourth for the final run of the game for a 17-0 win.
In game two the Defenders got out to a 2-0 before the Falcons scored in the third inning.
Bonser hit a single then stole second to begin the inning.
Gallagher hit a single to move the runner. A routine groundball scored a run and advanced the other. Another run would score as a batter was walked to tie the game at 2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning
Martinez doubled and then stole third and
Sarboukh knocked in the run with a single to take the lead. Summit would tie the game again in the next inning, and despite a triple from junior second basemen
Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) and a double by
Bonser the teams would go into extra innings.
In the bottom of the ninth inning,
Gallagher doubled to left field as
Reading singled to put her into scoring position and the winning run came off a double by
Martinez.
Rau threw five innings in the first game allowing only one hit and striking out six. In game two, sophomore pitcher
April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross ) threw six innings for two strike outs and one walk while
Rau finished the game pitching the final three innings of the game, striking out four batter and only allowing one hit.
The Falcons next game is on Monday, April 18 as they travel for a make-up contest at CSAC foe Neumann University with the first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m.
