Softball Splits With Notre Dame of Maryland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College softball team spilt a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference games with Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons battled back from a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the third, as freshman outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) singled to center field who then advanced to second on the throw in to start the inning. Sophomore shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) single to right field who advanced on the throw moving Reading to third. A sacrifice fly by freshman designated player Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (/Southern Lehigh) scored the tying run of the inning.

The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as Martinez got on base with a single through the left side. Freshman third basemen Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) followed up with a single through the left side herself while a routine ground ball by Ortiz-Siffel scored the run making it 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth junior second basemen Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) tripled to right center who would later score on a ground ball by sophomore outfielder Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) for the 3-1 win.

In game two the Falcons got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as two singles to the shortstop lead to runners on first and second by Sarboukh and Ortiz-Siffel. Junior Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) hit an RBI single to right center.

In the bottom of the third Ortiz-Siffel hit a double to left field to start the inning as Stump hit an RBI single up the middle to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Reading hit a double to right center and would be hit in by Martinez who singled to right field and would advance on the throw home. That would be the final run for Cedar Crest who fell 4-3.

The next game for the Falcons is on Thursday, April 7 at Rosemont for a rescheduled game from this week with the first pitch slated for 3:00 p.m.
