Falcons Earn CSAC Tournament Bid

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College softball team earned a post season game for the first time in 10 years with the last team advancing in 2006, the team will take the sixth seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament that begins next week as the Falcons will travel to the higher seed. The Falcons held a Think Pink game as they hosted Marywood University falling by scores of 13-4 and 10-8 on Saturday afternoon. 

The Falcons looked to battle back from a 5-0 in the bottom of the third to trail by two. Freshman designated player Nicole Ortiz-Siffel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) reached first on a throwing error by the short stop. Sophomore outfielder Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) singled down the right field line. Freshman outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) reached on a fielder's choice. Sophomore outfielder Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) laid down a bunt and an error after the play allowed a run to score. A sacrfice bunt by sophomore shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) scored another run for the Falcons. Sophomore first basemen Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) hit an RBI double to left center hitting the fence to make the score 5-3.

The final run of the game for Cedar Crest came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) reached on an error, freshman third basemen Amiee Sarboukh singled to the third basemen. Ortiz-Siffel singled to center field to load the bases and a fielder's choice scored the final run, falling 13-4.

The Falcons got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two, when Acosta singled to third and then stole second. Martinez doubled to right center for an RBI. Freshman designated player Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) hit a home run over the left field fence to make the score 7-2.

Martinez singled with a bunt to being the bottom of the sixth inning. Schnaubelt singled up the middle and Rau doubled to right center for two more runs to make the score 9-4. In the bottom of the seventh inning junior second basemen Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) hit a single up the middle, freshman Cassidy Barrett (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) pinch ran for Lane. Reading singled up the middle and another single by Acosta down the right field line for an RBI. Martinez doubled to right field, looking to advance on the play the runner on third was caught in a rundown but advanced home due to interference and keeping the runner on third. The next run scored on a fielder's choice but the Falcons couldn't tack on another run before the end of the game falling 10-8.

The next game for the Falcons will be on Wednesday, May 4 at 4:00 p.m. at the higher seed in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference tournament.
