Balanced Hitting Lifts Falcons Past Cairn in CSAC Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LANGHORNE, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College softball team defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cairn University 13-0 and 22-1 to improve to 5-1 in conference play on Friday afternoon.

The Falcons scored their first two runs in the second inning, sophomore first basemen Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) began the inning with a single up the middle. Junior catcher Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) moved her on the bases with a single to right field. Sophomore outfielder Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) doubled to left center and scored both runners. The Falcons added nine runs in the top of the third inning. With a runner on due to an error, sophomore shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) singled to center giving freshman third basemen Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) runners in scoring position to hit a two run single to center field. Schnaubelt fired a two run homerun to take a 6-0 lead. Stump got things started again with a single, with runners in scoring position an RBI single by Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) scored two runs. A single by freshman outfielder Kelly Reading brought in another run and the final two runs of the inning came off of a two-run homerun by Martinez for an 11-0 lead.

Junior Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park ) hit a double to left center to start the fourth inning, freshman designated player Nicole Siffel-Ortiz advanced her to third with a single to right center who later advanced on a passed ball. With bases loaded freshman outfielder Cassidy Barrett (/Northern Lehigh) hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring the only run of the inning. In the fifth, Martinez singled and was moved to second on a single to center field by Sarboukh. Lopez hit a routine ground ball that scored Martinez to secure the 13-0 win. 

After five innings, freshman pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) only allowed two hits while striking out seven batters.

In game two, the Falcons scored their first two runs in the first inning, Reading led off with a single and advanced to third by a single from Martinez. Two routine outs advanced the runners across the plate before the end of the inning to put the Falcons up 2-0 . The Black and Yellow score nine runs in the third inning. Reading led off with another single to second base, next Martinez would also single and Sarboukh advanced both runners with a single to left center. Ortiz-Siffel hit a single to left field for two RBIs. Bases were loaded due to an error bringing up Rau who earned three RBI's with a double. Lopez doubled to left field bringing home the next run and would later score on a sacfly. With a runner on due to an error, Martinez hit her second homerun of the day to take a 11-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, freshman outfielder Brianna DeLany () reached first on a fielders choice and error gave the Falcons runners on first and second. Lopez hit an RBI single to center field. Acosta also hit an RBI singled for another run. Reading singled earning two more runs. Freshman outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) singled to right center moving the runner. Sarboukh singled to left field loading the bases. Ortiz-Siffel singled to left to make the game 16-1. DeLany hit an RBI single as Sarboukh crossed the plate adding another score for the Falcons.  To end out the inning, Rau hit a single up the middle scoreing Barett for an 18-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Reading started the fifth with a single as Bonser followed her up with a single up the middle on the next at bat. Sarboukh hit an RBI single while Barrett was walked on the next play to load the bases. Ortiz-Siffel knocked in another run with a single while DeLany hit a single to left field for an RBI. Rau singled to left to earn the final run of the inning for the Falcons taking the second game 22-1.

Sophomore pithcer April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross ) struck out seven batter after five innings in the circle.

The next game for Cedar Crest is on Saturday, April 9 at Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Neumann University with the first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
