Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa - The Cedar Crest College soccer team opened their 2016 season with a 5-0 win over College of Saint Elizabeth on Thursday afternoon.
The Falcons had an early lead as junior Kari Vanderslice (Clementon, NJ/Highland Regional) scored her first goal of the season in the fifth minute of play. After a corner kick lead to a scramble in the box, junior Tara Irvin (Chalfont, Pa. /Central Bucks) got a foot on the ball to pass to Vanderslice, who shot just above the goalie's reach. Sophomore Alexandra Zoda (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. /Roy C Ketcham Senior ) netted one for the Falcons after taking a shot right outside of the box, pushing just past the goalie. After multiple chances in the first half, Irvin scored a goal in the 26th minute of play. Going into halftime, the Falcons led 3-0.
During the second half, the Falcons kept the pressure on the Eagles. Senior Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) scored her first goal this season off a loose ball inside of the box. After persistent effort, freshman Kelsey Kehm (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley ) scored her first collegiate goal in the 76th minute of play.
The Falcons will take the field again at home on Sunday, Sept. 4 against Wells College. The start time is set for 4 PM.
