Falcons Fall in Thriller at Centenary

Box Score HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.---The Cedar Crest College lacrosse team fell to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Centenary (N.J.) University, 18-16, on Wednesday afternoon. As the team scored the most goals in a game since meeting with the Cyclones in 2015 when they score 22 goals.

In the first half allowed the Falcons to take a 3-1 lead early on, before the teams would match goal-for-goal the rest of the half. Senior midfielder Regina Gill (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley ) notched her first of seven goals of the game, her third of the season, after picking up a groundball and charging down field. Senior midfielder Lauren Felix (Allentown, Pa./Saucon Valley) took the lead with a free position shot. The third goal of the game was by Gill while her next shot went wide. Sophomore attack Shelby Szoke (White Haven, Pa./Crestwood ) looked to regain the lead but her shot was saved. Gill took a free position shot that went wide, by freshman defender Isabella Savino (Middletown, Del./Middletown) tied the game with her first collegiate goal to make it 4-4 with 17:58 to play in the first half.

Sophomore midfielder Alexandra Zoda (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. /Roy C Ketcham Senior ) took a free position shot to score her first goal of the year to level the teams back a five a piece. Playing a man down, Gill would get her fifth goal of the season to keep things tied, this time at six. The next three shots were, slightly off with the goalkeeper picking up two saves and the third knocking the post before Gill found the back of the cage again. Felix would bring the Falcons back with in one, 8-9, to head into halftime.

The Black and Yellow came out ready for the second half, with a quick goal by freshman attack Theresa Neumann (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) who took a free position shot for her first collegiate goal. Gill took the lead back for the Falcons with her seventh goal of the season after a good clear. Szoke score her second goal of the game to take the lead 11-10 with 21:06 still left in the game. Two quick goal by Centenary put the team a lead the Falcons couldn't quite regain despite scoring five more times in the game.

Felix score the next two goals by winning the draw control and taking it right to goal for her fourth and fifth goals of the year, but the team would still trail, 16-14. Neumann score her second goal after scooping up a groundball and taking it down field to put it past the goalkeeper. Gill scored the final goal of the game with just 1:53 left remaining on the clock. Both senior defender Ellen Hill (Madison, N.H./Kennett) and Gill looked to get one more goal in for the team by Hill missed wide while Gill was stopped with a save for a final score of 18-16 in favor of the their opponent. Junior goalkeeper Kristen Payes (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood ) recorded 15 saves on the day.

The next game for the Falcons is on Saturday, April 1 as they will be playing a home game at DeSales University at 1:00 p.m. against CSAC opponent Immaculata University.
