Box Score 3 NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.---The Cedar Crest College softball team has improved to 6-1 after defeating Chatham University, 16-3, and Wesley College, 12-9 and 13-5 win over Lehman College in their final game of the day at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Tuesday afternoon.
To begin the day the Falcons took on the Cougars as the away team. Sophomore center fielder
Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) began the game with a single and advanced to third on a double to right center by junior shortstop
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley). Sophomore designated player
Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) hit a single to right field to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Junior catcher
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) hit a single to left field to load the bases for freshman third basemen
Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) who knocked in another run with a hit to center. The final run of the inning was of a hit by first basemen
Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area).
In the top of the second inning,
Reading singled to center to score freshman second basemen
Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) who was walked earlier. With runners on second and third a double to centerfield by
Schnaubelt advance the lead to 6-0.
Sophomore outfielder
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) began the fourth inning with a triple to right center and scored based off an error on the next play. Back-to-back singles with bases loaded, sophomore
Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) hit a single to left center while junior left fielder
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) hit a single to right center for a 9-2 lead. After a pitching change the Falcons continued to hit five more singles to extend the lead 13-2. The final three runs came in the fifth inning, with a routine groundball knocking in one and a single to centerfield by
Bonser knocked in the final two runs.
In game two, Cedar Crest took on Wesley College in an evenly matched battle that the Falcons proved valiant. The game went scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Falcons scored two runs,
Constable started the inning with a single to left field while
Bonser singled to the shortstop, both runners scored on a single up the middle by Rau.
Wesley took a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning, while the Falcons cut the deficit to one run in the fifth when
Schnaubelt followed a single by
Rau with a double for an RBI. Later,
Constable singled through the left side for another run to trail, 4-5. In the top of the sixth inning,
Horning hit a single to center field for two runs to trail 6-7.
In the seventh inning the Falcons played small ball, loading the bases after a walk and back-to-back bunts. A single by
Bonser to right field tied the game at seven a piece.
Martinez scored the next run with a single back to the pitcher, a deep single to left field by
Schnuabelt allowed two runs while a double by Horning scored the final run for the team to take a 12-7 lead that the held onto the final inning for a 12-9 victory.
To finish the day Cedar Crest played Lehman College,
Reading started things for the team with a single and would score on a single by
Martinez.
Schnaubelt later doubled to score
Martinez for the Falcons to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the second,
Constable hit a double scoring two runs to tie the game and later score on an error to take the lead.
Schnaubelt hit a single for an RBI and with bases loaded
Horning hit a sac fly for an 8-4 lead.
Martinez hit a double and grabbed an extra base later on a passed ball,
Schnaubelt hit her in with a single.
Bonser hit her second triple of the day to score two runs and would score on an error by left field that allowed
Constable to reach first taking a 12-5 lead in the bottom of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth back-to-back singles to left field loaded the bases with
Horning being hit by a pitch to score a run the Falcons would run rule the Lightning to earn their sixth win.
The next games for the Falcons is on Wednesday, March 8 with two games, the first at 9:30 a.m. against Regis College, and their final game at the tournament at 11:30 a.m. game against SUNY Poly.
