Box Score 2 NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team closed out their spring training trip with an overall record of, 7-2, opening the day with a 4-0 win against Regis College, and closing the day with a 9-1 loss against SUNY Polytechnic on Wednesday morning.
It would be a battle to see who scored first, as the game remained scoreless until the fifth inning. Sophomore catcher
Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) made the most of an error by left field an advanced to second base, and would later be advanced to third. Junior outfielder
Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) would earn the RBI with a single to left field to take a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons put the pressure on by extending the lead in the next inning. Sophomore outfielder
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) singled to right field and moved to second on a base hit by sophomore pitcher
Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus). Junior designated player
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) hit a single to right field for a RBI while an error score another run on the next play.
Schnaubelt scored the third run of the inning by advancing home on a wild pitch.
Rau earned her third win and second shutout of the week.
Cedar Crest struggled with errors and connecting for base hits in the second game, starting behind after the first inning. The Falcons were able to cut the lead to 2-1 after the first inning with a base hit by, sophomore outfielder
Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton), who stole second, and later scored off a double hit by freshman
Alexis Morales (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty). That would be the final run for the Falcons as they fell 9-1 in their final game of spring training.
The Falcons will open their home season with a double header against non-conference Penn State Hazleton starting at 3:00 p.m. as the team returns to Cynthia L. Balaschak field on Friday, March 17.
