Box Score 2 READING, Pa.—The Cedar Crest College softball team dropped game one to non-conference Albright College 4-3 after eight innings. The team bounced back, after going nine innings to earn a split by winning game two, 2-1, on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, holding a 3-0, then led 3-1 after two innings of play before the game was tied at three. Junior Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) managed to find a way to get on first with two outs, being walked down the line to get things started for the team. Junior Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) singled to left field before getting to third on a double by sophomore pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) that also scored the first run. Sophomore catcher Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) singled for two RBIs before the inning closed out. Although Cedar Crest managed four more hits during the game they weren't strung together to find another run and after battling for eight innings fell, 4-3.
In game two, Cedar Crest took a 1-0 lead by sophomore outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) beginning the inning with a single to the shortstop. Sophomore outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) laid a nicely placed bunt down the first base line to move the runner. Martinez hit a double to left center to score the lone run of the inning.
Defense was a contributing factor for both teams, as per game rules a runner is placed on second, in the ninth inning that would be sophomore Jaime Rivera (Middletown, N.Y./John S. Burke ). Rau moved the runner to third on a sacrifice bunt. Freshman third basemen Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) scored the game winning run with a single to right center. Freshman pitcher Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) went all nine innings improving to 2-0 this season.
