Softball Sweeps Rosemont College

ALLENTOWN, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team welcomed Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon for their Annual Think Pink game. The Falcons defeated the Ravens by a score of 8-0 game one, and 9-1 in game two.

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, sophomore outfielder Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) was the first hit for the team with a single to right field. Junior shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) singled with a bunt to advance the runner. Both runners stole to position themselves better to score. Junior designated player/catcher Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) hit a sac fly to right field for the first run of the game. Sophomore pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) helped herself at the plate hitting a homerun over the center field fence to take the lead 3-0.

Two quick defensive innings, including four strikeouts for Rau brought us to the third inning. Martinez led the inning off with a single to left field and scored on the next play as Schnaubelt singled to deep right center. A single up the middle by catcher/designated player Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) advanced the runner to third. Freshman third baseman Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) knocked in two runs after a single, the second run scored due to a throwing error taking a 6-0 after three innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, one runner on due to a throwing error, Sarboukh singled through the right side to score the run, and later stole second. Horning doubled to left field to score the game winning run. Rau wrapped up the win with six strikeouts, improving to 11-3.

In game two, the Falcons took a 8-1 lead in the second inning. After trailing one run in the bottom of the second, Horning hit a homerun over the center field fence to tie things up. Freshman first basemen Breanna Young reached first with a single over the head of the third basemen. Reading moved the runner with a sacrifice bunt while a passed ball let her reach third base. Constable singled through the right side for an RBI and the lead. A double by outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) gave the Falcons the lead.

Freshman outfielder Alexis Morales (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) kept the inning going with a single to third base for an RBI. An error scored the next run, with runner on a double to deep right center by Schnaubelt extended the lead for Cedar Crest. Sarboukh singled up the middle scoring the next run, she would later be scored by Horning who hit a single to right field to take the lead 8-1 after two innings.

Constable led off the third inning with a double down the left field line. Bonser singled to right field to score the run, advancing on the throw to home. That was the final run and all the Falcons needed to win, 9-1 for the sweep.

Cedar Crest looks to break their most wins in a season record which was set last year as the next game for the team is on Tuesday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. at non-conference Delaware Valley University.
