Box Score 2 CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College softball team traveled to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Clarks Summit University on Friday afternoon. The Falcons won the first game, 19-0, to break their school record most wins in a season from last year now with 22, although the team dropped the second game 5-3.
The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as sophomore catcher Aimee Sarboukh was the first run scored. After reaching first on an error, freshman third basemen Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) tripled to right center. Junior right fielder Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) hit double down the left field line for the second run. In the third inning junior shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) hit a triple, and advanced home on an error for the third run of the game.
The top of the fourth inning was when the Black and Yellow really opened it up. The team hit three singles in a row, starting with freshman outfielder Alexis Morales (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) who singled to the shortstop. Next, Martinez singled to right field while junior designated player Molly Schnuabelt singled up the middle for an RBI. An error on the next play scored another run. Sarboukh double to right center to score the sixth run of the game. Horning hit her second triple of the afternoon, again to right center for two more runs, while later scoring on a wild pitch. The next runner reached on an error and was scored by a double to center field by sophomore outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley). The next runner was walked, followed by the next one being hit by a pitch to load the bases. The next two runs scored on an error by the second basemen. Sophomore pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) hit a double, and advanced to third on the play scoring two runs, she would be the last run of the inning when Sarboukh singled through the right side, extending the lead 15-0.
Freshman second basemen Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) hit a single to left center to begin the fifth inning. Morales singled to the shortstop while Martinez loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch for the second time. Schnaubelt singled to right center to score three runs. Junior pitcher April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross ), who relieved Rau, Â hit a double to left center for an RBI and the last run for the team to win 19-0 after five innings. Rau threw three innings, with six strikeouts while Daly had one strikeout in her two innings.
The Falcons trailed early in game two, but tied things in the bottom of the second. Rau reached on an error by the shortstop, and another error gave us runners at first and second. A wild pitch advanced both runners. Constable knocked in both runs with a double to left field.
Trailing 5-2, Martinez took one deep over the fence for a homerun and the third run of the game. Schnaubelt hit her 17th double of the year, currently holding first and second place for doubles in a season, just two behind her record from last year. Unfortunately, the Falcons couldn't score another run falling, 5-3.
The team welcomes Gwynedd Mercy University to Cynthia L. Blaschak field on Saturday, April 29, first pitch is at noon with the second game following at 2:00 p.m., as both teams are looking for post-season positions.
