Softball Picks Up Two Road Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BEL AIR, Md. --- The Cedar Crest College softball team extended their win streak to four with two wins over Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Notre Dame of Maryland University, 6-3 and 28-7, on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, with sophomore outfielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) leading off with a single to left field to start the game. A double by outfielder Jaime Rivera (Middletown, N.Y./John S. Burke ) scored Bonser, while Rivera was knocked in by a single to left field by junior shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley). After stealing third Martinez scored on a routine groundball to the shortstop.

Tough defense kept Cedar Crest a 3-1 lead before adding three more runs in the fifth inning. Sophomore pitcher Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) helped herself with a single, and later stole second. Sophomore third basemen Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) singled to left center, and later stole second to put runners in scoring position. Junior outfielder Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ) earned to RBIs with a single, Gallagher later scored on a double by Bonser. The team held strong to secure the first win, 6-3. Rau improved to 5-1 after pitching six innings, for a season high eight strikeouts.

In game two, the Falcons took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. With runners in scoring position and error scored the first run, another routine infield groundball scored the second run. Two runs scored on a single by senior first basemen Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs). The second inning would start with back-to-back singles by Bonser and freshman second basemen Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area). The first run of the inning scored after Rivera singled, the second run was on a sacrifice fly.

In the third inning the Black and Yellow scored 16 runs, to start the inning Sarboukh and Baxter both singled. An error scored the first run, Bonser hit a single to left field for the second run. Rivera doubled for two RBI's, an error scored the next run. Three Falcons hit singles and advanced to second on the play to score three more runs. Baxter doubled down the left field line for an RBI, while Constable singled down the left field line to score Baxter. Bonser hit a single to advance the next run, Rivera followed up with a single of her own to right field for a run, then later stole second. With runners in scoring position Martinez hit a single to left field for an RBI. An error scored two more runs, Rau doubled to put runners in scoring position for Sarboukh to single to right center. Baxter singled for an RBI for the last run of the inning to take a 22-3 lead.

To start the fourth inning, Constable doubled to left field, while Bonser hit a double for an RBI. Later, Rau singled to left field for two RBIs. Baxter singled for an RBI to take a 26-6 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Senior second basemen Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) singled to start the fifth inning, junior catcher Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) singled to right field to advance Lane to third. An error scored two more runs for the Falcons for a 28-6 lead. Freshman pitcher Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerston Area) improved to 4-3 after four innings pitched with two strikeouts.

The next game for the Falcons is on Friday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m. as they take The Cynthia L. Blaschak field for the first time this season against CSAC opponent Immaculata University.
