Box Score 2 .ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College softball team extended their win streak to seven before it was broken when they split a double header with Immaculata University. In the Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up Sunday afternoon the Falcons would win game one after eight innings, 5-4, but despite a late come back in the seventh inning would fall 10-7 in game two.
The Falcons cut a three run deficit by two starting the fifth inning with a double by sophomore catcher
Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) doubled to right center. Freshman third basemen
Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) got the team on the scoreboard with a deep home run to right center to cut the lead 3-2.
The team trailed 4-2 in the seventh inning, with thing looking to fall in favor of the visiting team the Falcons rallied to push the game into extra innings.
Sarboukh began the inning with a single to left field, advancing to second on a single up the middle by
Horning. Runners on first and second, freshman second basemen
Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) singled up the middle for an RBI. Sophomore outfielder
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) hit a single to score the tying run to head to the eight.
A quick top of the inning, as the Falcons defense got three quick outs allowed them to put work in with the bats. Junior designated player
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) was the first hit for the Cedar Crest, as she took a pitch to right center for a double. With senior
Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) in to pinch run, sophomore pitcher
Laura Rau (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) bunted for a hit, a throwing error advanced both runners allowing the winning run to score.
Rau earned her seventh win of the season with two strikeouts.
In game two, the team dug a hole that they worked extremely hard to get out of, but despite coming back from a 10 deficit they came up just short. To start the bottom of the sixth, sophomore outfielder
Kelly Reading (Taunton, MA/Taunton) singled to left field. Junior shortstop
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would score the first run of the game off of her double to center field.
Schnaublet got behind a pitch and sent it over the center field fence to make it a 10-3 game, headed to the seventh inning.
Solid defense by the Falcons allowed them to get back to the plate to try for another come from behind win. With the start of the seventh looking similar to the sixth, the Falcons looked to pull another upset,
Reading laid a bunt down for single and was hit in on a double to center field by
Martinez.
Schnaubelt singled over the second basemen's head, putting runners on first and third.
Horning went deep to right field for her second homerun of the day for three runs to trail 10-7, but unfortunately the runs stopped there.
The next game for the Falcons is on Tuesday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. at The Cynthia L. Blaschak field for the for a non-conference game against Penn State Hazleton.
