Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College softball squad would split their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) double-header with Marywood University. The Falcons would take game one 9-8 with walk-off single up the middle and 11-inning back-and-forth contest that saw the Falcons on the losing end of a 13-12 score. Cedar Crest is now 15-15 overall and 8-8 in CSAC action.
In game one, Marywood struck first, scoring a run on a passed ball to give the Pacers the 1-0 lead. Marywood would extend their lead in the 3
rd off of a Pacer 3-run homer to push the score to 4-0, but the Falcons managed to get one run on the board in the bottom half of the inning. The Black and Yellow tied it up in the 4
th inning but, Marywood would strike again and give up another 3-run home run to regain the lead to 7-4. Cedar Crest answered with two more of their own in the 5
th inning cutting the lead to 1, 7-6. The Pacers would score their final run of the game in the top of the 6
th to extend their lead to 8-6. The Falcons got one in the 6
th as well, and went to the 7
th trailing by one, 8-7. Cedar Crest would not go down quietly as they tied it up and would win the game on a single up the middle to claim the 9-8 victory.
Senior shortstop
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) went 4-for-5 in the contest, plating and scoring 2 runs while sophomore third baseman
Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had gone 3-for-5 and also drove in two runs and scored two runs. .Junior right fielder
Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) and freshman
Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) turned in 3-for-4 performances,
Sarboukh scoring two runs and
Dalton scoring once and bringing in two RBIs. Senior catcher
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would also go 2-for-5 with a RBI that won the game in the bottom of the 7th.
Getting the start in the circle in game one was sophomore
Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), who pitched a complete game of 7.0 innings, allowed 11 hits and gave up seven earned runs and two home runs.
Young earned the win in the decision and put her season record at 8-7.
Game two started with each team scoring in the 1
st inning, with the Pacers tallying two in the top half and Cedar Crest scoring one, having the Falcons trailing 2-1. The Falcons would score four runs in the 4
th and the 6
th inning to give them a controlling lead at 9-2, but Marywood would come back to score 7 runs in the 7
th inning to tie the ball-game at 9-9. Still tied after 9 innings, heading into the 10
th, the International Tie-Break rule came into effect, where each team would start with the last batter to make an out the inning prior to start on second base. The Pacers scored two in the top half of the 10
th and the Falcons would answer right back with two of their own. In the 11
th, Marywood would have two more cross the plate, but would hold Cedar to scoring one, as the Falcons dropped game two, 13-12.
Dalton turned in a 5-for-6 performance, contributing two runs scored and two RBIs.
Sarboukh ended game two going 4-for-6, scoring three times and plating one. Sophomore center fielder
Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) would finish 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and crossed the plate twice. Four other Falcons went 2-for-6, one was
Martinez, who would blast a 2-run home run.
Sophomore
Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) started game two for Cedar Crest, she pitched 6.2 innings, striking out two batters and giving up 11 hits and two earned runs of the 9 the Pacers scored. Coming in in relief was
Young, who would throw 4.1 innings, allowed 3 hits, giving up four runs, none of which were earned, and struck out three batters.
Pekurny walks away with no decision and
Young receives the loss, putting her record at 8-8.
The Falcons hit the road to take on Rosemont, Saturday April 21 in a CSAC double-header beginning at 2 PM.
