Box Score 2 Allentown, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College softball team swept Notre Dame of Maryland University in a double-header Saturday afternoon with a pair of 5-inning games.The Falcons, now 11-8 on the year, after two dominant wins, 17-0 and 29-5. Those wins put Cedar Crest at 5-4 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
In game one, Cedar Crest bombed two homeruns in inning number one, putting 7 runs on the board. Adding one more run in the 2nd, before tacking on 3 more runs in the bottom half of the 3rd. In the 4th, Cedar Crest would plate 6 more runs to put the game at the final score of 17-0 in 5 innings.
Leading the way in game one was freshman third baseman
Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) went 3-for-4, hitting her first-career home run, scoring two runs and bringing in two RBIs. Sophomore shortstop
Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) went 2-for-4, also going yard in game one, scoring three runs and driving in two. Senior catcher
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) ended game one 3-for-3, scoring a game-high 4 times white contributing two RBIs. Junior center fielder
Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasant Valley) and freshman second baseman
Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) each finished 2-for-4 and both plated three RBIs, with
Bonser scoring three runs of her own.
Starting in the circle in game one was sophomore
Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), who pitched a complete game of 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit, which came in the top
of the 5th inning, and struck out five batters.
Young received the win in the decision and put her season record at 5-5.
Game two started out with 3 runs scored by the Gators in the top half of the 1st, before the Black and Yellow homered twice in the inning to take the lead, 5-3. Notre Dame would add one more run in the 2nd, but Cedar Crest would manage to have 7 Falcons cross the plate in the inning to push the lead to 12-4. Cedar Crest did not stop there, as they would put up a 10-spot in the 3rd, including another homerun. Adding 7 more runs in the bottom of the 4th, would have the Falcons offense to an end, allowing one run to score in the 5th, giving Cedar Crest the 29-5 victory.
Three Falcons would put the ball over the outfield fence in game two,
Horning would hit her second of the day, with freshmen second baseman
Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and first baseman
Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) hitting their first collegiate homeruns as Falcons.
Horning went 2-for-5, contributing three runs scored and five RBIs while
Dalton scored three runs and drove in four.
Tremblay would go 5-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBIs.
Krispin had another great game, hitting a triple and a double in her 4-for-6 performance. She scored and drove in four runs for Cedar Crest. Sophomore right fielder
Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) hit a double, going 4-for5 with four RBIs and scored two runs for the Falcons.
In circle in game two was sophomore
Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area), who pitched 5.0 innings, allowing 5 hits and giving up three earned runs, and striking out six. The victory in game two puts her record at 4-1 on the year.
The Falcons will hit the road for the next three games, starting with a non-conference double-header at Delaware Valley University on Wednesday, April 11. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Doylestown, Pa.
