Martinez Clears Fence as Falcons fall in CSAC Playoffs

Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College softball team suffered a 10-2 loss to Immaculata in the First Round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Playoffs on Wednesday evening. The Falcons finish their 2018 campaign with a 19-18 record.

Immaculata got on the board first with a run in the 1st inning, then blowing it open with a 5-run 3rd inning to put the Mighty Macs ahead, 6-0. The Falcons would score in the top of the 5th inning off of a 2-run blast by senior shortstop Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) to cut the deficit to four and the Black and Yellow trailed Immaculata 6-2. The Mighty Macs would score four more runs in the bottom of the 6th to end the game 10-2, concluding Cedar Crest's 2018 season.

Martinez drove in the only Falcons runs of the game with her 2-run homerun, going 1-for-2. Scoring the other run in the game was sophomore center fielder Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area), who also went 1-for-2. Senior designated player Jackie Gallagher (Fort Worth, TX/Keller Central ), junior right fielder Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) and sophomore third baseman Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) each recorded a base hit in the playoff contest, with Gallagher's hit being a double.

Starting in the circle in was sophomore Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area), who threw for 2.1 innings. She allowed five hits, six earned runs and walked one batter. Sophomore pitcher Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) came in relief for 3.1 innings pitched, also giving up 1 earned run, five hits and struck out two Mighty Macs. Pekurny received the loss, putting her record at 7-7.
