Three Falcons hit first Home Runs of season, Falcons swept by King's

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball team dropped both of its non-conference games to King's College, 7-15 (F/6) and 5-7 at Blaschak Field on Monday evening. The Falcons are now 2-7 on the season.
 
In Game 1, the Black and Yellow fell behind early, trailing 0-2 after the first. The Falcons would get even in the bottom of the third, putting the score at 2-2. King's would post a six-run inning, but the Falcons would counter with three of their own, putting the score at 5-8 after four innings of play. After a scoreless fifth, the Monarchs scored seven runs in the top-half of the the sixth, increasing Cedar Crest's deficit to 5-15, but the Falcons would get two more on the board before the game ended in six innings, 7-15.
 
Four different Falcons turned in two-hit performances, including Patricia Dalton's (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and Nicole Santaniello's (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) first home runs of the season. Dalton went 2-for-3 scoring a run and a RBI as Santaniello went 2-for-4 with her two-run blast, a double, two RBIs and a score a run. Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) both went 2-for-3 with Horning scoring twice and driving in a run and Sarboukh touching home once.
 
Getting the start in the circle was Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who pitched 5.0+ innings. Bilous allowed 12 earned runs on 15 hits, struck out two, walked one in the 31 batters faced before Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) came in as relief in the top of the sixth. Bilous faced four batters in the top of the sixth before Pekurny took over, as she threw an inning, allowing three unearned runs and three hits in the seven batters faced. Bilous received the loss in the decision, giving herself her first blemish of the season, at 2-1.
 
Game 2 started off in a similar fashion, with the Monarchs scoring two runs in the first inning. The Black and Yellow would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second and take the lead in the third, 3-2. King's added a run in the fourth to tie the ballgame up at 3-3, but the Falcons plated two more runners in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Monarchs would then score one in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to put Cedar Crest away, 5-7.
 
Horning posted a 3-for-4 performance in game two, including her first home run of the season. Horning also hit a double, drove in two runs and scored one of her own to round out her performance. Two Falcons garnered two hits each, Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) went 2-for-4 and scored a run as Dalton went 2-for-3 with a double. Both Dalton and Heller recorded stolen bases in the contest, along with Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge).
 
Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) started in the circle for Cedar Crest in Game 2, pitching a complete game, allowing seven runs, six earned, struck out five and walked three of the 38 batters she faced. Young would receive the loss, putting her at 0-4 on the year.
 
The Falcons will be right back at it tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19 when they host Neumann University at Blaschak field. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
