Game Recap: Softball |

Softball swept at home by Neumann

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball squad suffered losses both of its non-conference games to Neumann University Tuesday evening, 6-19 (F/6) and 3-4 (F/5) at Blaschak Field on Tuesday evening. The Falcons fall to 2-9 on the season.

In Game 1, the Black and Yellow took a two-run first-inning lead, but saw it disappear after the Knights scored four of their own in the second, having the score after two innings at 2-4 Neumann. The Knights had a seven-run inning in the third, but the Falcons would get three runs over the third and fourth innings to put the score at 5-11. Both squads scored a run in the fifth, increasing the score to 6-12, but Neumann would score seven times in the sixth to close the game in six innings, 6-19.

Nine different Falcons recorded a hit, with Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) reaching base twice with her 2-for-3 performance in game 1. Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) recorded her first collegiate home run as she touched them all for her lone hit of the game. Seeing action in her first game of the season was Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasant Valley), who pinch hit in the bottom of the sixth inning and earned a single in the infield. Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) scored twice and drove in a run as Stephanie Herpel (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and Sophia Callari (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) scored the other Falcons runs.

Getting the start in the circle was Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who pitched 2.0+ innings. Bilous allowed seven earned on seven hits, walked one in the 14 batters faced before Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) came in as relief in the top of the third as she threw an inning, allowing four earned runs and two hits in the seven batters faced. Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) entered the circle in the fourth inning and threw 3.0 innings, facing 22 batters, allowed eight runs on seven hits and struck out two batters. The loss is handed to Bilous, who is now 2-2 on the year.

Game 2 started off with the Knights scoring two runs in the first and second innings. The Black and Yellow would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third and put the game at 2-4 after three innings of play. Cedar Crest would hold Neumann scoreless in the fourth and fifth and would score one of their own in the bottom of the fifth to put the score at 3-4. At the conclusion of the fifth inning, the umpires called the game due to darkness, so that left the final score at 3-4 in favor of Neumann.

Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) ended Game 2 with a couple of hits, going 2-for-3 as three other Falcons each contributed a hit of their own. Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) drove in Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) for their first run, then Dalton singled in the infield that scored Herpel in the third. Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) doubled in the fifth that brought home Heller for Cedar Crest's final run of the game.

Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) pitched all five innings in Game 2, allowing four runs to cross the plate, three of them earned, walked three and struck out one in the 25 batters she faced. Boltz received the loss in the decision, which was her first of the season, putting her at 0-1.

The Falcons will play again on Saturday, March 23 when they travel to Rosemont College to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play with the Ravens. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 12:00 PM at the Ravens Athletic Complex.
